EE341: Discrete-Time Linear Systems
Collaboration and Make-up Policies -- Winter 2001
Grading
- Labs: (15%)
- Homework: (20%)
Labs and homework will be graded on a 0-4 basis, where:
- 4: complete and correct
- 3: complete, good approach, some mistakes
- 2: incomplete or poor approach
- 1: incomplete and poor approach
- 0: nothing turned in
- Midterm: (25%)
- Final: (40%)
- Initial course grades will be assigned based on the above distribution.
Bonus points (awarded to the first person who identifies any
technical error in the lectures, text or handouts) will cause
your course grade to increase by .1
or .2, depending on the number of bonus points you accumulate.
Collaboration
- In homework and lab assignments, you are allowed to
consult the professor, the TA, your other classmates, and/or any other
individuals to obtain assistance in formulating a solution or
debugging. You may not use any part of someone else's software
without written (i.e. email) approval from the professor. If anyone
other than the professor or TA, has been consulted on any portion of
the assignment, you are required to identify these individuals by
name at the beginning of the assignment. While such consultation
is allowed, it is important that the final written preparation of the
assignment is done by yourself, using your own explanations. It is
strictly forbidden to submit someone else's work as your own or to
copy someone else's work (either verbatim or with slight notation
changes). A good rule of thumb is "don't write down anything that you
don't understand."
- In the exam, you may not consult with anyone other than
the professor, who will only answer questions of clarification about
the problem wording. You will be asked to sign an honor code in each
exam indicating that the work is your own.
Grading discrepancies
- If a grading error is found in a lab or homework, the student should
bring it to the attention of one of the TAs (not the graders). If
the TA agrees that an error has been made, s/he will update the records.
If the TA does not agree and the student does not accept the explanation,
then the student should talk to the professor and the TA should send
email explaining the reason for not changing the grade.
- Students are responsible for reporting any grading errors within
one week of when the respective homework, lab or exam is returned.
Make-ups, Incompletes, etc.
- Make-up exams will be given only if you have a legitimate excuse,
such as a serious illness as documented by a doctor's note. If you do not have
a legitimate excuse, you will be given a grade of zero for the exam.
- Incompletes will not be given to students who wish to improve
their grade by taking the course a subsequent semester.
(An incomplete may be given for medical reasons where a doctor's note
is provided.)
Students will not be given an opportunity to improve their grade by
doing "extra work", although you can improve your grade a small amount
by accumulating "bonus points" (see above).
- Homeworks and labs are due at the beginning of class.
No late homeworks or labs will be accepted, unless there is a legitimate excuse
and you have obtained permission in advance from the professor.
No homework or lab scores will be dropped.
- Students are responsible for being aware of the add and drop dates for
the current semester. Forms will not be back-dated.
